hair

Also called a “pilous follicle,” a hair is made up of a bulb rooted in a cavity formed by the epidermis and a stalk which emerges from the surface of the skin. Hair growth is the result of cellular production; it takes place in three phases: growth, rest, and shedding. The hair takes on different forms depending on age and the part of the body. The hairs most often removed are those on the legs, underarms, and pubic area.
